The Point Webster robotics team stands by while a judge assesses their robot at a competition in Revere, MA.Point Webster Middle School provides a variety of after-school based learning activities and enrichment programs for our students.

3-D Printing Club (Grades 6 to 8 only)

Day: Wednesday (Full days only)
Time: 2:30- 4:00 pm
Dates: Beginning on Wednesday, January 17th – April 3rd

Description:
In 3D Printing Club students will use the MakerBot 3D Printer to print and create unique models. Students will learn how a 3D printer works and about CAD (Computer Aid Design) Software such a TinkerCAD. Once they understand how the 3D printer works, students will be challenged to use TinkerCAD to design their own creations. Each student will have the opportunity to print at least one design they create. Sign up is on a first come, first serve basis, since there will only be 15 seats available.

Badminton Club

Day: Fridays

Description:
New opportunity for students to learn and master the basic skills for the game of badminton. Students will have the opportunity to teach one another, play in scrimmages and learn to referee the game. We will discuss the game rules and learn strategies and encourage students to further develop their skills in badminton.

Basketball

Day: Mondays and Wednesdays (Grades 5 and 6 on Mondays and Grades 7 and 8 on Wednesdays)

Description:
Students will play 3 vs. 3 and 5 vs. 5 organized basketball games as well as work on the basic skills and techniques involved in basketball. The program will be capped at 25 students.

Board Game Club

Drama

Description:
Join the Drama Club to be part of this year's drama production so, Juke Box Time Machine! You've never seen anything like our amazing jukebox time machine! Just insert a quarter to travel to a past decade where Roxie, the time machine tour guide, will share a few nostalgic fun facts before dropping the needle on some of the greatest pop hits of all time. Extra days will be held as we get close to the production.

Garden Club

Have you always wanted to grow your own flowers, vegetables, fruits, and herbs? Are you someone who loves all things GREEN? Do you want to help our community? Then come join the PWMS Garden Club. Grade 5 Math Support

Grade 8 Science MCAS Prep

Description:
Students will review science standards from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and engage in hands-on lessons and activities. In addition to the science content, the class will review the necessary strategies and test taking skills needed to help successfully complete the exam. This is an excellent opportunity for students to work with their peers and receive individualized instruction. Together students will work to enhance their test taking abilities, review content from their three years of middle school, and decrease test taking anxiety. Homework Help

Description:
Homework Help provides an opportunity for students to complete and receive assistance with their homework assignments in all subject areas. Students who attend Homework Help should bring the appropriate materials (ex. chrome books, chargers and pencils) needed to access and complete their homework assignments, and students will be required to stay the full duration of the meeting (2:30 - 3:30). Students may attend one or both days (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Parents and guardians are asked to specify on sign-up form which days their child will be attending.

Monday Math Support

Description:
Monday Math an opportunity for students to complete and receive assistance with their math classwork and homework assignments, and also participate in math games with their peers! Students who attend Monday Math should bring the appropriate materials (ex. math classwork and homework, chrome books, charger, etc.) needed to access and complete their assignments. Students will be required to stay the full duration of the meeting (2:30 - 3:30). This afterschool program will have a maximum of 20 students.

Newspaper Club

Description:
Point Newspaper Club is looking for students who want to share stories about current events that are happening at Point Webster. Students will help to design the newspaper, write up the stories, interview students and staff, edit stories, take pictures, and print and distribute the newspaper. Even if writing for the newspaper does not sound exciting to you there will be other jobs for you to do, like designing an appealing newspaper and taking photographs to make our newspaper look nice!

Printers on Point

Description:
Printing Club will be limited to grade 7 and 8 students only. We will be making and creating Hats, Cups, Mugs and T-Shirts using a sublimation printer and a top-of-the-line Printing Press. We will also be discussing marketing and finance, as we will be selling our merchandise at school events. Please join us in spreading Point Pride throughout the community with the amazing merchandise we will be creating.

Point Painters

Description:
Point Painters is a before school program where students focus on a variety of projects that include drawing, painting, sculpting and more. This provides a supportive and fun environment for children to develop creativity, stretch their imagination, and learn art concepts and techniques. During Point Painters students will further their creativity by designing, constructing, and building projects both for the school and for themselves.

Gr. 5 LEGO Robotics Club

Description:
Grade 5 LEGO Robotics serves as an introduction to the robotics program. Students will work on daily STEM challenges where they will learn to design programs to move a Robot, build structures with LEGOs and learn how to research and create solutions to real-world problems. Students will also work on team building skills, which are an integral part of the robotics program. Space is limited to 18 students.

Gr. 6-8 Robotics

Description:
Students will work on Robot Design and programming using the Lego Spike Prime Robot or the MindStorm EV3 Robot. Students will be programming the robot to complete a themed mission designed by First Lego League. Students will be applying the Engineering Design Process towards an Innovation Research Project to create a solution for a real-world problem. Select students from the Point Webster Robotic team will compete in the annual QPS Spring Robotics Competition (held in May at Quincy High School). Students will compete in Robot Mission, Robot Design, Innovation Project and Core Values. Additional days may be added as we get closer to competition. Sign up is on a first come, first serve basis, since there will only be 20 seats available.

Soccer

Day: Tuesdays and Thursdays (5th and 6th grade on Tuesday and 7th and 8th grade on Thursdays)

Students will play 7 vs. 7 organized soccer games while working on technique and sportsmanship.

STEM Fair Club

Description:
Select Grade 6 and 7 students will be invited to participate in the Annual 8th Grade STEM Fair held on March 21, 2024. Students will be required to prepare a research project and presentation for the STEM related topic with more of a focus on Technology and Engineering. Students will apply the Engineering Design Process in developing and researching their solution to a real-world problem. Students will work with a Partner. They will be required to present their research project at the STEM Fair for judging. Additional days may be added as we get closer to competition. There is a potential to bring 2 student teams to a local exhibition in May as this will be dependent on the topic of their project.

Student Council

Description:
Students who participate in Student Council are encouraged to take a leadership role and be the representatives of the school. Expectations are for students to participate and fulfill their obligation in service projects around the school and community. Students will sign up for roles in school activities and will participate in school events as needed.

Morning Volleyball

Description:
Morning Volleyball is an opportunity for the student to learn and master basic volleyball skills with minimum drills and a lot of scrimmaging. We discuss the game and its rules along with the proper mechanics needed to further their skills in volleyball. Please join us especially if you are planning on going out for Point Volleyball this year.

Yearbook

Day: Mondays (Students in grade 8 only)

Description:
Yearbook Club gives 8th graders the creative control to design their own book filled with memories this year to be printed for the last day of school for everyone to see! If photography or graphic design interest you, this club is for you! See Mrs. Velez for more information!

BOKS

Description:
BOKS is back! BOKS (Build Our Kids' Success) is a before school activity that gives students a chance to get some excess energy out before classes begin. Students will participate in warm-up drills, stretching exercises, and then play a physical education game such as capture the flag, kickball, relay races, and more! Students will leave BOKS each week with an appreciation for exercise and with mindfulness strategies to practice on their own. BOKS will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30-8:00 am in the gymnasium with Ms. McBride and Ms. Keough starting on February 6th.
